Introduction to Journalism



According to oxfordlearnersdictionary.com, journalism is the work of collecting and writing news stories for newspapers, magazines, radio or television. A person who do this job is called journalist. Journalism is a form of communication which the purpose is to research, document, write, and present the news in an honest, ethical, and unbiased way.
Journalism have different types. There are types of medium and types of message. Types of medium are print journalism, photo journalism, broadcast journalism, and multimedia journalism. Types of message are such as sports. bussiness, politics, arts and culture, education, crime, etc. In print journalism usually report for newspapers or magazines. Photo journalism is more interested in capturing images that tell a story than ones that just look nice. Broadcast journalism is a news reported by using electronic media like television, radio, and the internet. And multimedia journalism is the practice of contemporary journalism that distributes news content by using audio, video, photo with a written story. [1]
The product of journalist is news. News come from a reporting. To report simply means to convey the facts of the story. Reporting comes from interviewing, studying, examining, documenting, assessing, analyzing, interpreting and researching. In collect the infromation, a journalist often uses the 5W+1H question - Who was it? What did they do? Where were they? When did it happen? Why did it happen? And how did it happend? [2]
News is very imprtant to inform, to explain, to get people opinion, to educate, and to entertain. A good news must be requiring fairness and balance, accuracy, sourced, accountability, and clarity.[3] The news must be reported fairly without biased. It is writing in a right fact and written very well without any mistake in spelling. The source is clear like who is the people? When it happened? And what happened? It is accountable and its consequences of good or bad can be considered. And it writes in short, clear and easy to understand by the readers.
 In short, journalism is very important to know and to study because it can oversee people toward what happened in this world and educate them. There are so many media that people can use to access the news like television and the internet. A news often consists of 5W+1H question to collect the information clearly. A good news is educative, simple and informative news.
